Biography of Michael Delorenzo



Actor / Director / Musician

Michael DeLorenzo is a veteran of stage and screen with more than twenty-five years in the entertainment spotlight. Born and raised in the Bronx, he first began performing at the age of seven as a dancer with Tina Ramirez's Ballet Hispanico. He went on to receive scholarships from the School of American Ballet (SAB), the Joffrey Ballet, with a final tenure at the New York School of Ballet. At the age of ten he danced alongside Rudolph Nureyev at the Royal Canadian Ballet, and at age fourteen performed with Mikhail Baryshnikov and the American Ballet Theater. He went on to attend the famous Manhattan-based High School of the Performing Arts and shortly thereafter, while dancing, was injured and tore the cartilage in his knee, thus effecting his immediate entre' into the world of acting.

His first gig was in the Broadway revival of West Side Story, where he made an appearance as one of the members of the Sharks. From there, he moved from New York to Los Angeles; where he went on to land various guest roles on such popular television shows as Miami Vice, Fame, and in music videos by such artists as Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. Michael has also appeared in such films as Rob Reiner's A Few Good Men alongside Tom Cruise, and Alive with Ethan Hawke, where he endured months of starvation and freezing cold atop a remote mountain in British Columbia. He won a Dramalogue Award for Best Actor in a play at the Mark Taper Forum entitled A Standup Tragedy, where Michael performed five different roles. Based upon that stellar performance, he was tapped by the producers of the ABC sitcom Head of the Class to star alongside Howard Hesseman during the last two years of the series. His breakout role came with New York Undercover, as Eddie Torres, the brooding cop with a heart. He went on to star in the Showtime drama Resurrection Blvd., as Carlos Santiago the embittered boxing champion, a role for which he went on to win numerous ground breaking awards. Just completing two independent features “NOT FORGOTTEN” with SIMON BAKER, star of the mentalist and “LA LINEA” with RAY LIOTTA and ANDY GARCIA. Michael developed yet another extension of his talents by venturing into the realm of directing. The episodes he helmed were among the highest rated. His feature directing debut with National Lampoons “ONE TWO MANY” Just released on DVD.

He is a multi-talented musician who plays guitar, drums, piano, as well as sings, and has songs that have appeared on the soundtracks of both New York Undercover and Resurrection Blvd.
